Tartans Break Records at Annual Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The field was comprised of Division I, II and III institutions with the Tartans winning three events, breaking a Gesling Stadium record and two school records.
Top Performances on the Track:
- Junior Ryan Podnar won the 5,000-meter run with a Gesling Stadium record time of 14:33.29. Graduate student Matthew Porter took sixth place after crossing in 14:48.95.
- Freshman Luke Freimanis broke the school record in the 110-meter hurdles when he paced second with at time of 14.70 seconds. Freimanis also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.54 seconds.
- Senior Aleksei Seletskiy finished third in the 1,500-meter race after he crossed in 3:58.67. He also placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.88.
- The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Matthew Yu, junior Bennett Wong, freshman Victor Ruhland and freshman Devin Chang set the school record after crossing in 41.78 seconds and placed third.
- Graduate student Anthony Toskin placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.12. Junior Kenji Tella crossed in personal-best 9:37.16 to place fourth with sophomore Nicolo Fasanelli placing sixth with a time of 9:38.52.
- Sophomore Philip Ma paced sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.14 seconds.
- Sophomore Angelo Parrino time of 8:52.95 in the 3,000-meter run placed him sixth.
- The 4x400-meter relay of freshman Ryan Joyce, freshman David Pinero-Jacome, sophomore Philip Ma and junior Gaven Williams closed the track events with a eighth place finish with a time of 3:26.40.
Top Performances in the Field:
- Freimanis won the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.53 meters while sophomore Solomon Glavach also cleared 4.53 meters and took second. Freshman Lucas Knappenberger tied for fourth at 4.38 meters while classmate Adi Verma placed seventh clearing the bar at 4.38 meters as well.
- Junior Morgan Johnson placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.95 meters.
- In the high jump, senior Sebastian Sanso placed third after he cleared the bar at 1.94 meters.
- The triple jump had Sanso record a career-best jump of 14.19 meters as he placed third. Johnson also recorded a personal-best jump of 13.77 meters and placed sixth while sophomore Atai Tahasan finished seventh with a jump of 13.51 meters.
- Senior Nathaniel Deyak recorded a career-best throw in the hammer and placed fifth with a toss of 47.75 meters.
