Tartans Finish Third at UAA Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team placed third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships hosted by New York University at the Icahn Stadium in New York on Sunday, April 27. The Tartans finished with a total of 134 points after winning four events.
Top Performances on the Track
- The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Matthew Yu, junior Bennett Wong, freshman Victor Ruhland, and freshman Kurt Schimmel won the race with a time of 42.92. It's the third time in program history the Tartans have won the race.
- The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Gaven Williams, senior Sean Dutton, graduate student Matthew Denton, and freshman Ryan Joyce finished sixth with a time of 1:42.
- Schimmel completed the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.26, earning fifth.
- Sophomore Philip Ma was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 55.21.
- Yu and Wong finished sixth and seventh in the 200-meter dash with times of 22.08 and 22.14, respectively.
Top Performances in the Field
- Senior Sebastian Sanso won the high jump with a personal-best tying mark of 1.98 meters.
- Sanso also placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.98 meters and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.94 meters.
- Junior Morgan Johnson placed second in the long jump with a mark of 7.10 meters and was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.70 meters.
- Freshman Watson Feil's mark of 45.99 meters in the javelin throw landed him an eighth-place finish.
