Tartans Start Season at Duquesne Duals

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team had a successful opening to the new season at the Duquesne Duals Saturday, September 5 at Schenley Park with seven members of the team finishing in the top ten amongst Division III runners.

Junior Curtis Watro (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) was the first Tartan to finish with a time of 27:01.8. He was second to cross the line after St. Vincent's Sawyer Palonder.

Sophomore Steven Kool (Vienna, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Technology) was the second Tartan to finish with a time of 27:06.3, leading a group of four Carnegie Mellon runners finishing in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th place. Behind Kool was junior Riley Rodenburg (Erie, Colo./Peak to Peak) with a time of 27:08.8, freshman William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) in 27:15.5, and freshman Jacob Halasowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) crossing in 27:17.0.  

With Brandon Moretton of St. Vincent coming in 8th, the next Tartans to finish placed 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, and 14th.. These runners were freshman Aaditya Mhatre (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) with a time of 27:39.2, junior Justin Rodenburg (Erie, Colo./Peak to Peak) in 27:41.8, sophomore Owen Norley (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston) in 27:45.4, freshman Andrew Harter (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga) in 27:55.4, sophomore Jordan Safer (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) in 28:00.4, and junior William Casazza (Barrington, R.I./Barrington) in 28:03.5.

The Tartans will look to continue their success at the Dickinson Invitational on September 26 at Dickinson College.
