Tartans Open Four-Game Series at Case Western Reserve

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team continued University Athletic Association (UAA) action on Friday, April 5 with a doubleheader at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The Spartans won both games, moving to 13-6 and 2-1 for the season, while the Tartans dropped to 5-13 and 0-6.

Three Tartans recorded multiple hits on the day, as Case Western Reserve won game one, 6-0, and game two, 8-0 in five innings.

The first game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when the Spartans scored five runs off freshman pitcher Scotty McGee (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) who lasted 4.2 innings before being replaced by freshman Gwen Delacruz (Laguna Nigel, Calif. / Aliso Niguel). Freshman left fielder Emily Song (Mount Arlington, N.J. / Roxbury) and freshman third baseman Piper Johnson (Riverside, Calif. / Martin Luther King) had two hits apiece in the game with freshman center fielder Summer Faille (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Westlake) recording one hit.

Delacruz started game two and surrendered three hits and two runs in the first inning. McGee replaced Delacruz with two outs in the second inning and finished the final three innings giving up six hits and six runs.

Freshman Megan Hu (Katy, Texas / Seven Lakes) was 2-for-2 at the plate in game two with a sacrifice bunt while Delacruz and senior right fielder Rae Lasko (Diamond Bar, Calif. / Diamond Bar) each singled.

The Tartans and Spartans continue their four-game series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
