(SEGUIIN, Texas) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team opened the 2025 season at undefeated 14th-ranked Texas Lutheran University and fell in a pair of games by scores of 9-0 and 5-0. Texas Lutheran is now 11-0.
Game 1
- Sophomore Maya Bala led the Tartans with a hit in the top of the second.
- Junior Haley Pucci pitched three innings while freshman Gianna Adams pitched one.
- The Bulldogs started off the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first.
- The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the bottom of the third.
- Three runs in the bottom of the fourth helped the Bulldogs close the game in five innings.
Game 2
- The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the third, and added a run in the sixth.
- In the top of the second, junior Koko Sagae singled to left field, allowing senior Abbey Reese to advance to second after reaching on an error.
- Sophomore Maddy Beall led off the sixth inning with a single but was erased from the bases on a fielder's choice to second by senior Libby Eichberger.
- After Eichberger stole second, graduate student Kiera Boucher reached on a bunt single advancing Eichberger. The Bulldogs were able to get out of the inning without giving up a run.
- Senior Faith Lawrence singled to start the seventh but the home team turned their third double play of the game and recorded the last out on a ground out to the pitcher.
