Tartans Split Doubleheader with Concordia

(AUSTIN, Texas) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team split a doubleheader at Concordia University in Austin, Texas, on Monday, March 3. The Tartans won the first game by a 4-3 score before dropping the second, 7-3, to move to 1-3 for the season while the Tornados are 7-7.

Game 1

  • The Tartans scored two runs in the top of the first inning when sophomore Jasmine Chao and senior Faith Lawrence recorded RBI singles.
  • Concordia answered with one run in the bottom of the second before tying the game in the bottom of the third.
  • It wasn't until the seventh inning that the Tartans took a two-run lead with RBI singles from junior Koko Sagae and graduate student Kiera Boucher.
  • The Tornados' rally to tie the game or win it in the seventh inning was stopped when freshman Gabriella Triano got the last out via a ground out to first base with runners on second and third.
  • Sophomore Maddy Beall had a double and Boucher and senior Libby Eichberger each stole one base.

Game 2

  • Concordia put two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and a third run in the bottom of the third.
  • The Tartans cut into the deficit with an RBI single up the middle by senior Allie Rome in the top of the fourth inning.
  • After the Tornados added two runs in the fourth inning, the Tartans made the score 6-3 in the sixth inning.
  • Sagae scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a single and advancing on an error, and freshman Reagan Diamond scored on a ground out by Lawrence.
  • Concordia added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
