(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team split a doubleheader at Kenyon College on Saturday. The Tartans won the first game by a 10-2 score before dropping the second 4-3 and are now 3-9 overall while the Owls move 12-4 for the season.
Game 1
- The Tartans scored two runs in the top of the first inning, by juniors Koko Sagae and Kira Monji. Sagae scored first with an RBI single and Monji scored on an error after Sagae stole second.
- The game was then quiet until the top of the sixth innings, where the Tartans collected four runs off five hits. The first run came with graduate student Kiera Boucher scoring after Sage singled to second base. Then, senior Faith Lawrence hit her second home run of the season that plated Sagae and Monji home.
- The Tartans then scored four more runs in the top of the seventh, including a pair of RBI by senior Abbey Reese.
- The Owls added two runs at the bottom of the seventh.
- The Tartans collected 13 hits in the contest with three coming off the bat of Monji and two from Sagae and freshman Reagan Diamond.
- Junior pitcher Haley Pucci tossed her first complete game of the season and fifth of her career. She struck out six and allowed three hits.
Game 2
- Kenyon put two runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the bottom of the fourth.
- Sophomore Maddy Beall got the Tartans on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a single to left field that scored Reese.
- The Tartans made the score 4-3 in the top of the fifth, with both Boucher and Monji scoring off singles by Monji and Lawrence.
- The Tartans recorded double digit hits for the fifth straight game with Monji once again collecting three of them. Beall and senior Allie Rome each had two hits.
