Tartans Sweep Chatham in Midweek Series

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team swept its second straight doubleheader when it defeated Chatham University 9-1 and 5-3 on Tuesday, March 25. The Tartans are now 7-9 for the season.

Game 1

  • Junior Haley Pucci held the Cougars to two hits in 5.0 innings pitched to earn the victory.
  • The Tartans pounded out nine hits with two doubles and three triples.
  • Eight different players had an RBI.
  • Senior Allie Rome gave the Tartans a 3-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI ground out while junior Koko Sagae and freshman Reagan Diamond had RBI singles in the inning.
  • Graduate student Kiera Boucher had an infield single in the second inning that scored senior Libby Eichberger.
  • Eichberger and junior Kira Monji had RBIs in the fourth inning while senior Faith Lawrence had an RBI triple in the fifth. Sophomore Maddy Beall added an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Game 2

  • Freshman Gabriella Triano scattered eight hits in 7.0 innings for the win.
  • Monji, senior Abbey Reese, and Rome each had a double.
  • Sophomore Maya Bala had her second sacrifice fly of the day.
  • The Tartans again scored three runs in the first inning and Beall had an RBI single in the second inning for a 4-0 advantage.
  • After Chatham scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Tartans added a run in the top of the fifth on Bala's sacrifice fly that scored Reese who doubled with one out.
  • Chatham added a run in the bottom of the sixth but Triano finished the game strong to strand two runners in the bottom of the seventh.
