Tartans Suffer 11-7 Defeat at Hands of #21 Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University softball team finished a three-game home series with 21st-ranked Emory University on Sunday, March 30 with the Eagles prevailing, 11-7. The Tartans are now 7-12 overall and 0-3 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) while the Eagles move to 20-2 and 6-0.

How it Happened

  • The Eagles scored eight runs off three home runs with Ellie Zerr hitting two over the fence.
  • After the Eagles led 5-1, the Tartans scored five runs in the third inning to take a 6-5 lead.
  • All the runs for the Tartans in the third inning came off singles as the team had six hits with two walks.
  • Sophomore Jasmine Chao had a pinch-hit RBI single to give the Tartans the 6-5 lead.
  • A sacrifice fly by sophomore Maddy Beall in the fourth inning put the Tartans ahead 7-5.
  • With one out and runners on first and third, Emory's Addison Kwong put down a bunt that freshman catcher Reagan Diamond dove forward to catch in the air but she slipped in the rain and everyone was safe to load the bases.
  • Zerr cleared the bases with a home run to left center and gave the Eagles back the lead at 9-7.
  • Zerr picked up her seventh RBI of the game with an infield single in the seventh while Ella Hoyle hit in the final run of the game to put the Tartans down four with three outs to go.
  • Mackenzie Duford, who entered the game with the Tartans ahead 6-5, retired the final three outs to earn the win.
  • Seniors Abbey Reese and Allie Rome, along with Beall, each had two hits in the game. Reese and Beall had two RBIs apiece.
