#8 Tartans Record Third Straight Shutout in 5-0 Win

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The eighth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team returned home for a Friday evening contest against Baldwin Wallace University and topped the Yellow Jackets by a 5-0 score to advance to 5-1-1 for the year. The Yellow Jackets drop to 5-3 for the season.

Inside The Box Score

  • Sophomore Catherine MacNichol scored twice in the second half with the first one coming 26 seconds after the kickoff.
  • MacNichol's second goal of the game was a penalty kick after she was fouled in the box in the 62nd minute.
  • Freshman Jenna Hallbeck recorded the game-winning goal in the 19th minute after dribbling uncontested from the left sideline to the corner of the six-yard box and slotting a shot under the keeper to the far post. Junior Breana Valentovish earned the assist on the play.
  • Junior Cecelia Dieterich scored her first goal of the season off a free kick in the 27th minute. Her shot was fired to the upper left corner, hitting the under part of the crossbar before crossing the goal line.
  • Sophomore Maria Askounis tallied the fifth goal of the game after a run into the box following a split pass through the back line by sophomore Emma Shirzad.
  • Senior Olivia Brand earned the win and made four saves, including a punch over the bar in the seventh minute.

Notes

  • MacNichol leads the team in scoring with six goals for the season and tallied her second game with two goals this year.
