(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 19th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team faced the 20th-ranked William Smith College Herons on Saturday, September 7 in the opening game of the DoubleTree by Hilton - Suites Pittsburgh Downtown Tartan Cup. The Tartans beat the Herons 4-1, putting them at 1-0-1 overall.
Inside the Box Score
- In the 35th minute of the game, sophomore Audrey Bianco scored with an assist by graduate student Cecelia Dieterich.
- The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Tartans until Dieterich scored on a penalty kick in the 48th minute.
- William Smith scored in the 53rd minute when Marjorie Plants hit a high shot over junior Abby O'Connor to cut the Tartan lead in half.
- Senior Ayana Curto added to the score in the 83rd minute when she ran to the near post and finished a pass from senior Emma Shirzad who raced down the right side of the field to run down a long diagonal ball from senior Avery McGuirt.
- In the 87th minute, junior Giulia Balestrieri scored off an assist from Dieterich.
