Tartans Tune Up for UAAs at Western PA Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team swam at the Western PA Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh against the host Panthers, Duquesne University, Saint Francis University, California University of Pennsylvania and Lockhaven University.

Some highlights from the meet include:

Freshman Allison Weller (Hummelstown, Pa. / Hershey) placed fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:11.06 and ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:27.38.

Freshman Abigaie O'Donnell (Delanson, N.Y. / Duanesburg) finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:10.14.

Sophomore Maya McAuley (Novato, Calif. / Novato) placed eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.20.

The 200-yard medley relay of junior Tiffany Tseng (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy), freshman Emma Kulbida (Broomfield, Colo. / Stargate Charter), junior Miya Higuchi (Glendale, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) and junior Mathea Myhrvold (Raleigh, N.C. / Wakefield) placed seventh in 1:50.50.

Tseng placed 10th in the 100-yard backstroke in 59.46.

Junior Kristin Daniel (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Stoney Creek) finished the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:17.60 to place fourth.

The 400-yard freestyle relay placed sixth behind the efforts of Tseng, senior Dani Castleberg (Santa Barbara, Calif. / Dos Pueblos), senior Madeline Hoedemaker (Pennington, N.J. / Hopewell Valley Central) and Myhrvold in 3:36.97.

Sophomore Kelli Kuramoto (Los Altos, Calif. / Los Altos) scored 273.45 on the 3-meter board and 257.75 on the 1-meter board to lead the Tartans.

The Tartans will start the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Wednesday, February 9 at Emory University.
