Tartans Sweep Weekly UAA Swimming and Diving Awards

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team swept the University Athletic Association (UAA) weekly honors with freshman Savannah Xu earning UAA Women's Swimmer of the Week and junior Kelli Kuramoto earning UAA Women's Diver of the Week following their performances in the dual meet against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday, October 29.

In her collegiate debut, Xu set three pool records in the Tartans' 228.5-71.5 dual meet win against Case Western Reserve University. Xu's victories came in the 100-yard backstroke (56.21 - won by more than two seconds), 200-yard backstroke (2:00.73 - won by nearly eight seconds), and 200-yard IM (2:05.13 - won by more than six seconds). She also swam the final leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay with a 23.57 freestyle split. Two of her times lead the nation while her 100-yard backstroke time is third in the nation.

In her second meet of the season, Kuramoto hit two NCAA regional qualifying scores with victories on the 1-meter board (265.80 points) and the 3-meter board (271.50 points).

Xu will next compete at Gettysburg College on Saturday, November 5 while the divers have the week off and return to the pool at home on Saturday, November 12 against Washington and Lee University.
