Tartans Start UAA Championships

(ATLANTA, Ga.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's swimming and diving team started the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Wednesday, February 12 at Emory University with the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The Tartans placed sixth in the distance freestyle event behind the swims of junior Audrey Soetanto, junior Sophie Elliott, freshman Angelina Sanna, and junior Savannah Xu. The team finished the race in 7:37.72 for its best time of the season.
The second relay group of senior Abigael O'Donnell, freshman Janna Lu, freshman Alexandra Scharpf, and senior Katie Rock touched in 7:47.72 to place sixth in their heat to earn 26 points.
The Tartans are currently in sixth place with 74 points while New York University leads the field with 104 points.
Day two of the four-day meet will have the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 3-meter diving, the 200-yard freestyle relay, and the 400-yard medley relay.
