Venkatarama Named ITA Regional Most Improved; Selected to NCAA Singles Championship

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis sophomore Divya Venkatarama was honored as the Division III Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Most Improved Player. Venkatarama was also selected to compete in the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships after being listed as a top alternate when the first selections were announced last week.

Venkatarama led the team in singles victories with 22 and was named to the University Athletic Association (UAA) Second Team at third singles. The sophomore had an 11-2 record at third singles during dual matches and an overall mark of 22-6. She also played in the ITA Cup in the fall after finishing second at the ITA Southeast Regional to Taylor. In doubles play this year, Venkatarama had an 18-14 record with seven different partners and ended the year with four straight wins with sophomore Anna Chow.

Last year, Venkataram accumulated a 23-7 singles record and played fourth and fifth singles for the Tartans. She also had a 22-13 doubles record.

The sophomore will play in the singles bracket of the NCAA Division III Championship with play beginning on Saturday, May 25 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
