#12 Tartans Sweep Denison and Otterbein

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted 25th-ranked Denison University and Otterbein University on Saturday, February 22. The Tartans swept through both teams, winning 7-0, in both matches to move to 5-0 for the season.
Against Denison
- The Tartans took the doubles point after junior Divya Venkatarama and freshman Rachel Li won 6-3 at second doubles and senior Zoe Angell and junior Anna Chow won 6-3 at first doubles.
- As singles was played on three courts, the Tartans added to their lead after senior Sarah Yang won 6-3, 6-2 at first singles and Venkatarama and freshman Shelly Zinchenko rallied from first set losses to win.
- Venkatarama won 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-4 in the third position while Zinchenko won 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-4 in the second position.
- Freshman Joycie Lu then won 6-1, 6-1 at sixth singles ahead of freshman Victoria Gazda at fourth singles (6-4, 6-1) and junior Manuela Van Cottem at fifth singles (6-2, 6-4).
Against Otterbein
- Gazda paired with sophomore Ainika Hou to win 6-0 at third doubles with Li winning her second doubles match of the day by pairing with junior Anika Joshi at the second position to win 6-0.
- Angell and Chow also won for the second time on the day with a 6-1 finish at first doubles.
- Angell, Gazda, and Zinchenko earned victories at third, second, and first singles, respectively to seal the win.
- Van Cotthem and Lu also won their second matches of the day with Van Cotthem winning 6-3, 6-0 at fourth singles and Lu winning 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles.
- Joshi took a victory at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.

The Tartans will head to Florida for spring break and face the University of Mary and Saginaw Valley on Monday, March 3 to start the seven-match tour.
