#9 Tartans Defeat #31 Swarthmore

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked ninth in Division III, hosted 31st-ranked Swarthmore College on Sunday. The Tartans won 4-3 and are now 16-2 in dual action while Swarthmore is 6-4.

Inside the Results:                                       

  • The Tartans collected the point in doubles play with wins at the one and two spots. The Tartans top tandem of senior Zoe Angell and junior Anna Chow won 6-4 while freshman Ancele Dolensek and junior Divya Venkatarama won by the identical score at two.
  • Carnegie Mellon then claimed points at first, third, and fourth singles to clinch the victory.
  • After Swarthmore took the first point in singles, freshman Shelly Zinchenko won 6-0, 6-4 at one singles followed by 6-3, 6-1 win at third singles by Dolensek.
  • Swarthmore then recorded another singles point to make the score 3-2, but Venkatarama clinched the match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at the four spot.

  • The Tartans will play at Allegheny Colleg on Saturday, April 12 against the Gators and Grove City College.
