#9 Tartans Open UAA Play With 4-0 Win Over #29 NYU

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Thursday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida, with a 4-0 win over 29th-ranked NYU. The Tartans move to 21-2 overall while the Violets are now 7-6.
Inside the Results:
- Carnegie Mellon took the point in doubles with wins at two and three. First, the second tandem of freshman Ancele Dolensek and junior Divya Venkatarama won 6-1 before junior Anika Joshi and freshman Shelly Zinchenko won 6-3 at third.
- Junior Manuela Van Cotthem won 6-1, 6-1 at the six spot to start the scoring in singles play.
- A 6-1, 6-2 win by freshman Victoria Gazda at five singles gave the Tartans a 3-0 advantage.
- Senior Sarah Yang then sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at three singles.
Inside the Results:
- Carnegie Mellon's 21 wins ties the school record for the most victories in a season. The 2008-09 and 2022-23 teams also had 21 wins.

- The Tartans will now play second-ranked Emory University in the semifinals at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
