Guevel Wins 100-Meter Hurdles at UAA Championships to Lead Tartans

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team hosted the final day of the 2012 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships Sunday, April 29.  The two-day event was held at Gesling Stadium.  The Tartans ended the championships in fifth place scoring 62 points with Emory University winning the team title totaling 226.5 points.

For the second straight season, sophomore Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) took home the gold in the 100-meter hurdles.  The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 14.68.  Guevel followed her first-place finish with a season-best time of 1:01.94 to place second in the 400-meter hurdles.  

Guevel along with senior Ivana Moses (New Rochelle, N.Y./Phillips Exeter), freshman Stephanie Chen (Vancouver, B.C./Crofton House School) and freshman Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) placed fourth in the 4x100 relay with a school record time of 49.92.

Spalding took fourth in the 400-meter run while Moses placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with times of 59.39 and 12.70.  Moses' time in the 100 was a career-best.  The senior also took sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 10.78 meters.

Guevel, Spalding, freshman Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and sophomore Kelsey Hallinen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) ended the event with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:03.40.
