Tartans Open Outdoor Season at the W&L Carnival

(LEXINGTON, Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled south to Lexington, Virginia for the W&L Track and Field Carnival hosted by Washington and Lee University at Foster Stadium.
Senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) turned in the first of three second-place finishes throughout the weekend. Wobb crossed the finish line with a time of 17:57.96 in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed fourth in the race with a time of 18:27.19 while junior Elise Hall (Hillsboro, Mo./Hillsboro Senior) finished eighth in 18:44.09
For the second straight season at the meet, junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Harker School) raced to second-place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. She crossed with times of 15.10 and 1:04.74, respectively.
Sophomore Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) turned in a sixth- and seventh-place showing. Her sixth-place finish came in the 1500-meter race as she crossed in 4:54.42 and then crossed the finish line in 2:21.82 in the 800-meter run to place seventh.
Sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) competed in the heptathlon, as she turned in a fifth-place finish totaling 3,763 points.
Senior Sarah Menio (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) placed eighth in the discus with a toss of 31.27 meters.
The Tartans will be back in action when they host the Carnegie Mellon Mini-Invite Saturday, March 30.
