Two Women Honored on CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) and sophomore Emmalyn Lindsey (Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) have been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for women's cross country and track and field. Cook earned her second career Academic All-District honor while Lindsey earned her first in her first year of eligibility.

In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.300 and be a significant contributor to the team. Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Both Cook and Lindsey will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition which will be released on June 19.

Cook recently concluded her track and field career at the 2018 NCAA Championships where she placed 17th in the 800-meter run. The senior recorded her best time of 2:11.87 in the event late in the season to earn her bid to the national meet. Cook will leave Carnegie Mellon with school records in both the indoor and outdoor 400-meter dash while she helped set school records in all five relay events during her career.

Away from the track, Cook maintained a 3.88 grade point average while majoring in biological sciences. The senior spent three years as a research assistant at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and was a summer research assistant at Vanderbilt Vaccine Center in 2017. Passionate about health, Cook served as the co-president of Carnegie Mellon's Global Medical Brigades for two years. She helped organize and run trips in Panama and Nicaragua where the group established free medical clinics and aided in the construction of improved public health infrastructures. In April, Cook was initiated into Phi Beta Kappa and received a Student Leadership Recognition Award.

Lindsey was part of the historic women's cross country season this fall when the team finished 24th at the NCAA Championships in the program's first trip to the championship meet since 1998. The sophomore finished third on the team at the meet with a career-best time of 22:22.80 on a 6k course. Lindsey also competes on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams where she leads the team in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Like Cook, Lindsey is a member of Global Medical Brigades and spent her most recent spring break in Nicaragua building structures and teaching communities healthy practices. Lindsey is studying material science and engineering and biomedical engineering and holds a 4.0 after four semesters of work. Last summer Lindsey was a R&D Packaging Intern at Procter and Gamble while she has earned a GE Women's Networking Scholarship twice.
