Tartans Place Second at Bob Shannon Invitational

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed in the Denison University Bob Shannon Invitational this Saturday, February 2. The Tartans placed second overall with 97 points, finishing just 9.5 points behind Ohio Wesleyan University. 

Junior Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. Greensburg Central Catholic) won the pole vault in her second consecutive meet clearing 3.36 meters. "I was really impressed with a lot of our vaulters who took attempts at personal bests today," said the junior. Junior Joanna Baranowski (Syosset, N.Y / Syosset) finished fifth clearing 3.05 meters, while freshman Enza Potter (Los Gatos, Calif. / Saint Francis) scored seventh with 2.75 meters and freshman Ashley Zhang (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) had a personal best of 2.75 meters. 

The Tartans swept the mile run with four women in the top five. Junior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) won the race in 5:14, marking her second victory in the event this season. Senior Rose Ciriello (Madison, N.J. / Madison) took second in 5:21.15 while junior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) placed third with a personal best of 5:21.60. "It was a lot of fun to get to run with such a big group. I didn't have a lot of expectations going into the race, as the mile is very short for me. It was good to know that I could hold that pace," said Levine. 

Senior Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif. / Bishop Montgomery) placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters. Senior Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 4.82 meters and seventh in the triple jump with distance of 9.60 meters. 

Junior Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.38 seconds and fifth in the 200-meter dash in 28.10. Sophomore Madeline Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) placed third in the 800-meter dash in a time fo 2:27. Freshman Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) ran to a third-place finish in 11:10 in the 3,000-meter run, while sophomore Megan Rice (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) finished fourth in 11:11.

The Tartans will competed again next Saturday, February 9 at the Noke Elite Meet hosted by Roanoke University in Roanoke, Va.
