Women’s Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards

(NEW ORLEANS, La.) - The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2020 Division III All-Academic Track & Field Teams and Carnegie Mellon University was included on the list for the 24th consecutive year. A total of 209 women's teams and 150 men's teams earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better for the 2019-20 academic year.

The women's track and field team achieved a team GPA of 3.56 for the 2019-2020 school year.

In addition to the team earning the award, nine individuals were honored:
Freshman Carmen Andrade (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Ramey)
Senior Joanna Baranowski (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset)
Senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley)
Freshman Jasmine Fahrenkrug (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal)
Freshman Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa./Ambridge)
Sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont./The Taft School)
Senior Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic)
Graduate student Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y./The Albany Academies)
Senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep)

All nine individuals qualified for the award by achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better with either competing at the NCAA Championships or finishing the regular season ranked in the national top 50 in an individual event or top 35 in a relay event.

Karabin earned All-Academic recognition for the third while her teammates are all first time honorees.
