Barre Named UAA Indoor Women’s Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University Liz Barre was honored by the University Athletic Association (UAA) when the 2023 UAA Indoor Track and Field awards were announced Monday. Barre was named Most Outstanding Performer in the field events becoming the first Tartan female to receive the honor for field events as well as the first to win two titles in field events at the indoor championships.

Barre won the long jump and high jump titles at the UAA Indoor Championships. The senior started the championships with a school record jump of 5.57 meters to win the long jump. She broke the mark of 5.51 meters set by Sasha Spalding set in 2015. On the second day, Barre won the high jump after clearing the bar at 1.63 meters. She also placed second in the 60-meter hurdles as she posted a personal-best time of 8.87.

Barre also joins Jacqueline Guevel (2011) and Jocelyn Sikora (2005) as the only three female Tartans to earn UAA Most Outstanding Performer in either field or running events at an UAA Indoor Championship. Guevel and Sikora were both honored for running events.
