Tartans Open Outdoor Season at West Virginia Pushkin Invitational

(MORGANTOWN, W.Va.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team opened its outdoor season at the West Virginia Pushkin Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Top Performances

  • The Tartans 4x100-meter relay team of junior Iniyaa Mohanraj, freshman Catherine Stava, senior Jocelyn Kiefel and junior Zoe King placed third with a time of 51.55.
  • Mohanraj crossed in 16.84 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to take third and freshman Alin Aydogan placed eighth with a time of 17.75,
  • The 400-meter run saw senior Sunny Tang place third with a personal-best time of 1:01.30 and Stava take seventh in 1:01.55.
  • Freshman Maggie Wu took third in the 400-meter hurdles as she crossed in 1:13.56.

Top Performances in the Field

  • The long jump had the Tartans taking three of the top eight spots with Kiefel jumping a personal-best 5.15 meters to place second King 5.06 meters for third and Mohanraj 4.78 meters to place seventh.
  • In the pole vault, the Tartans swept the top three spots with senior Hazel Buonopane winning the event clearing the bar at 3.35 meters. Senior Kate Stamper and freshman Ava Barnes both cleared at 3.20 meters with Stamper taking second on the judges decision.
  • Senior Katie Monahan took third in the shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters while classmate Taylor Symonette placed sixth with a mark of 10.99 meters.
  • Monahan also placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 34.23 meters.
  • Freshmen Catalina Howells and Aydogan both cleared 1.40 meters in the high jump with Howells placing fifth and Aydogan placing eighth on a judges decision.
