(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened its home quad invite on Friday against the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington and won 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-23). The Tartans are now 12-11 overall while the Eagles move to 16-11.
The Tartans hit .331 for the game behind 17 and 14 kills by seniors Anna Cao (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) and Vivian Beaudoin (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills), respectively. Beaudoin hot .650 for the match with Cao hitting .516.
Junior Stella Yan (Coppell, Texas/Coppell) not only handed out 43 assists in the three-set match, but added four kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Jane Dean (Wilmette, Ill. / New Trier) put away seven kills and hit .538 in the win
Freshman Abby Chen (Fairfax, Va. / Oakton) led the Cardinal and Gray with 22 digs. It marked her sixth straight double-digit dig match with having three of 20 or more during the span. Sophomore Laura Reichard (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico / Saint John's School) ended the night with 15 digs.
The Tartans will open Saturday's play against SUNY-Geneseo at 11:00 a.m. before playing Wittenberg University at 5:00 p.m.
