Tartans Split on Final Day of Home Quad

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team closed a home weekend with a split on Saturday. The Tartans opened play with a 3-1 win over the University of Scranton before dropping a 3-1 contest to Marietta College. The Tartans are now 3-3 on the season.

Inside The Box Score Against Scranton

  • After dropping the first set 25-21, the Tartans won sets two and three by the scores of 25-20 and 25-18, respectively.
  • The Cardinal and Gray then sealed the victory with a 25-21 win in set four.
  • Juniors Katherine Jackson and Elizabeth Schlemmer led the offensive attack with 14 kills each.
  • Graduate student Laura Reichard also tabbed double digit kills with 12 and led the Tartans with four aces.
  • Sophomore Neha Tummala dished out 45 assists in the victory.
  • Four Tartans recorded double figure digs with Reichard leading the charge with 17. Senior Abby Chen ended with 14 while Schlemmer and sophomore Zoe Gavros both had 10.

Inside The Box Score Against Marietta

  • The Tartans dropped the first two sets before winning the third set 25-17. The Pioneers then clinched the win with a 25-19 victory in set four.
  • Reichard led the attack with 13 kills followed by freshman Katherine Marshall with 12.
  • Tummalla had 35 assists and added six digs.
  • For the second straight match, four Tartans recorded double digit digs and once again Reichard led with 17. Schlemmer finished with 13, freshman Izzy Saffert 11 and Gavros with 10.

Next Up

The Tartans will travel to the Randolph-Macon College Invite on September 13-14. Their first match will be Friday, September 13 against Salisbury at 6:00 p.m.
