Tartans Split a Pair of Matches at UAA Round Robin #2

(ST. LOUIS, MO.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's volleyball team competed in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 on Sunday hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. The Tartans started paly with a 3-0 win over the University of Rochester before dropping a 3-2 decision to sixth ranked Emory University.

  • The Tartans won by sets of 25-18, 25-21, and 29-27.
  • The Tartans hit a .245 against Rochester's .048.
  • Junior Bella Woodard led the offense with nine kills.
  • Three Tartans had eight kills in the game, graduate student Laura Reichard, junior Julianna McFarland, and junior Elizabeth Schlemmer.
  • Sophomore Neha Tummala had 32 of the team's 39 assists.
  • Reichard had three service aces while Tummala and Schlemmer had two.
  • The defense was led by Reichard, senior Abby Chen, and Tummala who each had 12 digs.

  • Emory won the first set 25-15, Carnegie then took the second set with a score of 29-27, and Emory won the third and fourth with set scores of 25-17 and 25-19.
  • The Tartans hit a .121 against Emory's .244.
  • Schlemmer led the team in kills with 13, followed by junior Katherine Jackson and McFarland with 10.
  • Tummala had a total of 41 assists out of the team's 45.
  • Both McFarland and Chen collected two service aces.
  • Reichard led the team's defense with 24 digs, followed by Tummala with 15 and sophomore Zoe Gavros with 14.
