Tartans to Play in UAA Fifth-Place Match

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) championship with a 3-1 setback to 20th-ranked University of Chicago before topping the University of Rochester 3-0 in the consolation round on Friday. The championships are being played at the University of Rochester. The Tartans are now 18-11 overall and will play in the fifth-place match on Saturday.

  • The Tartans won the first set 25-21 before the Maroons won the next three by the scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20.
  • Junior Bella Woodard led the Cardinal and Gray with 12 kills while graduate student Laura Reichard also tabbed double digit kills with 10.
  • The Tartans had seven service aces including three by senior Abby Chen.
  • Sophomore Neha Tummala handed out 34 of the Tartans 39 assists while also totaling nine digs
  • Chen led the team with 15 digs, as junior Elizabeth Schlemmer added 11 and Reichard 10.
  • At the net, junior Julianna McFarland recorded a career-high four block solos and added two block assists.

  • The Tartans won by the scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17
  • Schlemmer led the Tartans offense with 10 kills while McFarland had nine.
  • Tummala finished with 39 assists and added four service aces in the win.
  • Chen recorded 15 digs to lead the Tartans defensively.
  • Once again, McFarland headed the Cardinal and Gray at the net with two block soles and two block assists.
