Tartans Finish Play at UAA Championship With 3-1 Win Over NYU

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team placed fifth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over the Violets of NYU. The championship tournament was hosted by the University of Rochester and the Tartans finished the regular season with a 19-11 record.

  • The Tartans won the first set 25-18 before dropping set two 25-19. The Tartans then took sets three and four with the scores of 28-26 and 26-24.
  • Graduate student Laura Reichard headed the attack with 21 kills
  • Juniors Katherine Jackson and Julianna McFarland each had double figure kills as well with 13 and 10, respectively.
  • Sophomore Neha Tummala dished out 50 assists.
  • Juniors Bella Woodard and Kai Herchenroether led the charge at the net with four block assists apiece.
  • Senior Abby Chen recorded five of the Tartans eight service aces. Chen also led the Cardinal and Gray with 20 digs.
  • Double digit digs were had by junior Elizabeth Schlemmer as well, as she finished with 10.
