ADPI Student-Athlete Group Mission

Mission

  1. To promote a more critical understanding of ADPI issues and advocate the needs of the ADPI community within athletics

  2. To empower our student-athletes and improve the Tartan Athletics experience through community, networking, and leadership opportunities

Vision

The ADPI Student-Athlete Organization is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all of our community’s identities are respected and recognized as integral to Tartan Athletics.

Goals

Create a Community for ADPI Tartans

As indicated by an interest survey, ADPI student-athletes at CMU desire to connect with Tartans of other sports with similar cultural backgrounds and experiences. Having a place to connect and relate with others, allowing a sense of belonging, is a crucial component in building relationships, having uncomfortable conversations, and finding meaningful ways to become involved.

Expand Diversity in Athletic Recruitment

Given the representation in the student population, it’s important that ADPI students feel represented in the student-athlete population as well. Our goal is to connect with recruits and provide more resources for high school athletes to learn about Carnegie Mellon’s high-level academics and athletics.

Address Microaggressions & Biases

To provide a more inclusive, welcoming environment for all, we can start by discussing the microaggressions that student-athletes face across various sports. Making the effort to eliminate issues such as name pronunciations and mix-ups between the ADPI community will foster a more comfortable environment for student-athletes and allow for a sense of belonging.
