Three Honored on CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team

(TOWSON, Md.) - Three Carnegie Mellon University athletes have been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on the Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team for both the men and the women. Senior swimmer Breanna Stillo (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) garnered her second first-team selection while junior tennis athlete Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) joins Stillo on the first team for the women. Junior golfer Ian Bangor (Moon Township, Pa./Sewickley Academy) landed a spot on the men's second team.

Stillo graduated in May with a 4.00 GPA in biomedical and mechanical engineering. This past season, Stillo was the University Athletic Association (UAA) Champion in the 200-yard medley relay and set three school records; 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard medly relay. Stillo also finished in the top three at the UAA meet in the 400-yard medley relay and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Cecil was one of three juniors to be named to the Academic All-America First Team and carries a 4.00 GPA in biological sciences, specifically neuroscience. She most recently competed at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles championship, earning All-America status for the second season. Cecil has racked up her share of awards in 2013 as she earned the NCAA Elite 89 award for having the highest GPA of a competing athlete at the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and was named the ITA National Arthur Ashe Jr. for Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner.

Bangor completed his junior season at the NCAA Men's Golf Championships, becoming the second player in school history to play as an individual at the championship. He finished the season with a stroke average of 74.4, leading the Tartans for the third year. Three times he recorded a low round score of 69 as he won three tournaments. Bangor was also named to the PING Mid-Atlantic Region Team and a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.
