Tartans Earn ECAC Bowl Game Bid; Travels to Waynesburg Saturday

(CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – After finishing the regular season with a 6-4 overall record, the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to play in the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southwest Bowl Saturday, November 17.  The Tartans will travel to Waynesburg University for a 1:00 p.m. kick at John F. Wiley Stadium.

In the Tartans season finale, junior wide receiver Tim Kikta (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) set the programs single-season record for receiving yards.  The junior hauled in four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown giving him 800 yards for the season, breaking Jarrod Siket's mark of 768 set back in 1991.  Heading into Saturday's contest, junior signal caller Rob Kalkstein (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) needs four yards and two completions to become the school's single-season leader for both.  Kalkstein currently has passed for 1,960 yards this season on 126-of-199 passing for a completion percentage of 63.3. The junior quarterback will also look to maintain his completion percentage as he currently is the single-season leader heading into the game Saturday.   

This will mark the Tartans third trip to an ECAC Bowl, as in 1999 the Cardinal and Gray traveled to Frostburg State and came away with a 28-10 victory and in 2007 they hosted Gettysburg and put together a come-from-behind 21-20 victory.

Waynesburg, a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), enters the contest with a 9-1 overall mark, its best record since an 8-3 finish in 2007.  The Yellow Jackets last appearance in an ECAC Bowl was in 2011, as they fell 48-27 to Widener. Junior Bertrand Ngampa leads the Yellow Jackets' offensive attack with 883 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns.  Senior Dominic Moore is not far behind Ngampa with 643 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Waynesburg averages 202.0 yards per game from the ground and allows only 99.9.

When the two teams meet on the gridiron Saturday it will mark the first meeting between the two schools since 1963.  The Tartans hold the all-time series 10-3-1.
