Patrick Robinson Receives Aztec Bowl Invite

(EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.) - Carnegie Mellon University senior offensive tackle Patrick Robinson (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) has been invited to play in the 2012 Aztec Bowl Senior All-Star Game.  

One of 42 collegiate seniors from 32 colleges and universities, Robinson will play for the USA All-American Eagles when they take on the ONEFA All Stars from the Mexico University system in the Tazon Azteca XL (Aztec Bowl) on December 14th in Monterrey, NL Mexico.

A two-time All-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection with first-team distinction this season, Robinson blocked for a balanced offensive attack.  The team averaged 200.4 yards passing and 184.0 yards rushing per game.  On five occasions, the Tartans compiled 400 yards or more of total offense. For the 15th straight season, Carnegie Mellon ended the 2012 campaign at the top of the UAA in rushing, as the Cardinal and Gray totaled 2,024 yards on the ground.

The 6-4, 285-pound offensive lineman has started every game for the Tartans the past two seasons while seeing action in all 31 games over a three-year span. In doing so, he helped the Tartans' rush for 300 or more yards in a game four times during the 2011 season and played a huge factor in the Tartans rushing attack that set a school record with 585 yards rushing and 679 yards of total offense against Hiram in 2010.

Robinson becomes the third player in school history to be selected to the Aztec squad. Following the 2000 season Nick Zitelli earned MVP honors in a 27-26 United States victory over Mexico.  The senior inside linebacker recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown and nabbed an interception. In 2006, defensive back Arron Lewis took the field for the Eagles as a starter and recorded five tackles.

The Aztec Bowl is a small college post-season bowl game that has been played intermittently since 1950. With but one exception, all of the games have been played at locations in Mexico; the exception was the 1957 game played in San Antonio, Texas.  In 2011, the All-American Eagles defeated the Mexican College All-Stars, 28-14.  The USA All Stars have a 12-1 edge against the Mexican All Stars, while the Mexican All Stars have a 13-11 edge against non-All-Star teams.
