Football Earns Second Straight ECAC Bowl Bid

(DANBURY, Conn.) – After finishing the regular season with a 7-3 overall record for the second straight season and winners of five straight, the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to play in the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legacy Bowl Championship Sunday, November 20 against Salisbury University. The Tartans will look to defend their Legacy Bowl title from last year when they defeated Bridgewater State, 48-13, New Britain, Connecticut.

All six ECAC Bowl games will be played at a neutral site with the University of Pennsylvania serving as host in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The Tartans and Sea Gulls will kick off on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on the turf of Franklin Field.

This will mark the Tartans fifth trip to an ECAC Bowl, as they hold a 3-1 mark. Besides the Tartans win over Bridgewater Sate last season, in 1999 the Cardinal and Gray traveled to Frostburg State University and came away with a 28-10 victory and in 2007 they hosted Gettysburg College and put together a come-from-behind 21-20 victory.  The Tartans lone loss came at the hands of Waynesburg University in 2012 on the road, 28-24.

When the Tartans and Sea Gulls meet on Sunday, it will mark the third meeting between the two schools. Salisbury holds a 2-0 mark with both wins coming in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in 1983 and 1985.
