Three Tartans Garner Weekly Accolades

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Junior running back Chris Haas (Coronado, Calif./Coronado), junior corner back Anthony Kennon (Lancaster, Mass./Nashoba Regional) and freshman placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team were recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for their play in the Tartans' 29-23 overtime win at 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University this past Saturday. Haas and Kennon also garnered weekly recognition from the University Ath-letic Association (UAA), as the Tartans claimed their 11th Association title with the win over the Spartans.

Haas ran for a career-high 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 36 carries in the victory, averaging 6.1 yards per rush. The junior also had an 11-yard catch in the second quarter to help set up a Nguyen field goal. Haas scored from nine yards out in overtime to give the Tartans the win in the 33rd Annual Academic Bowl.

Kennon totaled seven stops, six solo, and a pair of interceptions in Saturday's come-from-behind overtime win. He corralled his second interception in the end zone, foiling the Spartans first and only possession of the overtime period. Kennon has four interceptions and a league-high 15 pass breakups this season.

Nguyen had five points in Saturday's victory. He drilled a career-long 45-yard field goal to end the second quarter, trimming the Spartans lead to 13-10 going into the half. Nguyen also con-verted 2-of-3 extra point tries. His 45-yard field goal is the second longest in the PAC this year and he has hit 7-of-11 field goal attempts for the Tartans this season.

Carnegie Mellon will conclude its season on Saturday, November 17 when Geneva College trav-els to Pittsburgh for a 1:00 p.m. kick. The game was originally schedule for October 27, but was postponed due to the tragic event at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill.
