Three Tartans Earn Weekly PAC Football Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University football team players have been recognized by the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) for their play on the field in the Tartans' 20-13 victory over 12th-ranked Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday. Senior outside linebacker Quinn Gaughan (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) was honored on the defensive side of the ball while sophomore placekicker Brandon Nguyen (Maitland, Fla./Lake Highland Preparatory) was named Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman punter Casey Jaeb (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) was named Rookie of the Week.

Gaughan racked up a career-high 17 stops (nine solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in Saturday's victory. He also registered his first career interception in the opening quarter and added a fumble recovery in the third quarter.

Nguyen drilled field goals of 41 and 46 yards, respectively, in the first half and went 2-for-2 on extra-point tries for the game. Nguyen's 46-yard make, a career long, is the longest in the PAC this season and came with one second left on the clock in the first half to give the Tartans a 6-0 lead at the break. He is 4-for-4 in field goal attempts and 9-for-9 in extra-point tries this season.

Jaeb played a major role in field position in the win. He punted 11 times with an average of 40.2 yards per kick while placing four inside the Presidents' 20-yard line. The freshman had three punts of 50 yards or more, including a career-long 56.

The Tartans will head to Latrobe, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 28 for a 1:00 p.m. kick against the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College.
