Tartan Football Releases 2020 Roster

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – While the 2020 season has been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Carnegie Mellon University head football coach Rich Lackner, in what would be his 35th year on the sidelines at the helm of the Tartans, has released the roster for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Notes:

  • The Tartans' 20-13 win last season over 12th-ranked Washington and Jefferson was the highest ever over a ranked opponent since D3football.com started a Top 25 poll in 2003. Last season also marked the first time the Tartans defeated two ranked opponents in a single-season, as the Cardinal and Gray took down 20th-ranked Case Western Reserve 24-21 to close the regular season and claim their second straight Academic Bowl victory.
  • Fourteen players were named to the All-PAC Team last season with eight on the current roster: Skyler Blacker, Sam Brod, Sean Cooke, Kris Hughes, Bram Miller, Brandon Nguyen, Sean Pogorelc and Mason Tolliver.
  • Eight members were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Football Team with four on current roster: Luke Bikulege, Bram Miller, Logan Stahl and Danny Zahniser.
  • The Tartans have 58 all-time CoSIDA Academic All-American honorees after tabbing two last season. Carnegie Mellon has themost honorees in Division III and is fifth among all of college football, Division I, II, III and NAIA.
  • Senior Sam Brod ranks seventh in career sacks with 16.5.
  • Head coach Rich Lackner is one of 16 active head coaches among all divisions with 200 career victories (224), and he is fourth among active Division III head coaches in total career wins.
