Evert Named PAC Rookie Player of the Week

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Matthew Evert (Roswell, Ga./Milton), was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Rookie of the Week. Evert receives the honor following his play Saturday in the Tartans' 24-6 win over Case Western Reserve University in the 35th Annual Academic Bowl.

Evert caught four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown in the win. His 20-yard score put the Tartans in front 14-7 with 2:47 left in the first half. It was his first touchdown this season.

The Cardinal and Gray claimed a share of the PAC title and the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship with the win. It is the Tartans' first PAC title since 1989 and the first trip to the NCAAs since 2006.

Carnegie Mellon will head to Naperville, Illinois on Saturday to take on the defending national champions and top-seeded North Central College at 12 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
