Larsen Named AFCA Division III Region 2 Coach of the Year

(WACO, Texas) – Carnegie Mellon University head football coach Ryan Larsen has been named American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) 2022 Regional Coach of the Year for Region 2.

Larsen led Carnegie Mellon to an 11-1 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Tartans captured the PAC title and the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, which was the eighth all-time in program history. The Cardinal and Gray advanced to the second round of the 2022 Division III NCAA Football Championship after defeating DePauw University at home to open the tournament.

Carnegie Mellon finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, marking the seventh time in program history that a team has gone undefeated in the regular season. The 11 wins tied the school record for the program's most victories in a season. The other time was in 2006. The team was ranked as high as 17th in the D3football.com poll, which was the highest D3football.com ranking in program history. The Tartans were also ranked as high as 15th in the AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll to mark the highest ranking in the AFCA Division III poll for the program.

The AFCA will announce the 2022 National Coaches of the Year winners in FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA on Monday, January 9. The Regional winners in each division are finalists for National Coach of the Year.
