Thomas Coury and McCullough Receive PAC Weekly Honors; Coury Recognized Nationally

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University senior Thomas Coury and freshman Brendan McCullough have been recognized for their play in the Tartans' 80-22 win over Thiel College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play. Coury was named PAC Defensive Athlete of the Week while McCullough was named PAC Newcomer of the Week. Coury also landed a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Coury played a huge part in the Tartans victory over the Tomcats.Coury's defensive efforts included six tackles, a sack, one pass break-up and a forced fumble and then he returned his forced fumble 23 yards for a touchdown. In addition, Coury headed a special teams unit that blocked a school-record three punts, as he blocked one and scooped another punt block and returned it 31 yards for a score. The three blocked punts is one off the NCAA single-game record.

McCullough had a season-high five catches while recording his first collegiate touchdown, a seven-yard TD reception in the third quarter and finished with 29 yards receiving in the win. The freshman also recovered Coury's block punt in the first quarter.

Carnegie Mellon will travel to Bethany College on Saturday, October 14 with kick set for 1:00 p.m.
