Tartans Land Five on 2024 D3football.com All-Region 2 Team

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) – Five Carnegie Mellon University football players have been honored on the 2024 D3football.com All-Region 2 team with graduate student linebacker Robert Coury garnering first team accolades. Graduate student defensive back Adrian Williams and graduate student offensive lineman Hunter Campbell were honored on the second team while graduate student linebacker Thomas Coury and senior defensive lineman Mitchell Stokey landed a spot on the third team.
The five honorees are the most for the program. It marks the 11th straight season the Tartans have had at least one player receive All-Region accolade and the fourth straight to have multiple named. All five were first team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) selections this season as this marks the fourth straight year that Robert Coury and third consecutive Williams have been honored on the all-region squad. Coury has been a first team honoree the last three seasons.
The Tartans led the PAC in total defense and were ranked second nationally, allowing 203.4 yards per game of total offense at the conclusion of the regular season. The Cardinal and Gray also led the league averaging 9.1 tackles for loss per game which ranked third in the nation. The defense held nine of their 10 regular season opponents under 100 yards on the ground and broke a school record when holding Centre to -33 yards rushing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Their rushing defense was ranked second in the PAC and seventh nationally allowing 53.2 yards per game.
Coury, who was William V. Campbell Trophy Finalist and a semifinalist for the 2024 Gagliardi Trophy, led the defense for the fifth straight season in tackles (77) and fourth straight season in tackles for loss (18.5) while also leading the squad with 6.0 sacks. He ranks third in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) in tackles for loss, 11th in sacks and 14th in total tackles. The senior has also forced five fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had one blocked punt this season. His five forced fumbles are the top in the PAC in fourth nationally. He finished his career with 366 tackles and 65.0 tackles for loss, ranking tops all-time in program history in both categories.
Williams recorded 36 solo tackles and had 53 total stops while posting four pass breakups, an interception and had a fumble recovery. Campbell was the anchor of the Tartans offensive line that blocked for the PAC top scoring offense and 13th national ranked scoring 42.0 points per game, as he played in 11 games this season with nine starts at left tackle. He did not give up a sack or contribute to any negative runs throughout the season.
Thomas Coury ranked second on the team in tackles with 71. He ended the season with 11.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, forced a fumble and blocked a punt. He also returned his own block punt for a touchdown against Saint Vincent. He finished his career with 299 tackles which rank fourth all-time in program history. Stokey ended the season with 2.0 sacks and tabbed 11.0 tackles for a loss of 23 yards, 40 total tackles, recovered two fumbles, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup.
