Coury Garners Fourth All-America Honor of 2024 Campaign; Named to Walter Camp Foundation All-America Team

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Melon University graduate students linebacker Robert Coury was named to his fourth All-America team on Wednesday after being named a Division III All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has chosen All-Americans at the Division I level for decades but is selecting a Division III All-America team for the first time this season. Coury was selected as one of three linebackers, as the organization chose just an All-America first team.
Coury, who was William V. Campbell Trophy Finalist and a finalist for the 2024 Gagliardi Trophy, was also named an Associated Press first team selection, a first team D3football.com honoree and a second team AFCA choice in addition to the Walter Camp honor.
Coury led the defense for the fifth straight season in tackles (77) and fourth straight season in tackles for loss (18.5) while also leading the squad with 6.0 sacks. Coury forced five fumbles, recovered two fumbles and had one blocked punt this season. His five forced fumbles ranked fourth nationally. He finished his career with 366 tackles and 65.0 tackles for loss, ranking tops all-time in program history in both categories.
The Tartans defense led the PAC in total defense and were ranked second nationally, allowing 203.4 yards per game of total offense at the conclusion of the regular season. Coury also headed a defense that led the league averaging 9.1 tackles for loss per game which ranked third in the nation. The defense held nine of their 10 regular season opponents under 100 yards on the ground and broke a school record when holding Centre to -33 yards rushing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Their rushing defense was ranked second in the PAC and seventh nationally allowing 53.2 yards per game.
Carnegie Mellon ended the season with a 10-1 record, and a share of its 10th Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship in program history. The Tartans are one of seven Division III institutions that have recorded 10 or more wins in three straight seasons.
