Countdown to 500 Wins!
The football program approached a milestone of its 500th career
victory November 5, 2011 with a 28-13 victory over Chicago. Join us
in our celebration and take a look at interesting facts that have
happened along the way.
Football was first introduced to the school in 1906 as the team
went 1-5-2 with the first victory coming over Kiskiminetas Academy
by the score of 5-0. With three seasons cancelled (1918, 1944,
1945) due to war conditions, the start of the 2011 season, the
102nd year of football, the Tartans of an overall program record of
495-360-28. Current head coach Rich Lackner has been a part of more
than half the victories with a combined record of 252-98-4 as a
player, assistant coach and head coach. Lackner leads the list of
all-time coaches with 170 wins followed by Walter P. Steffen (88)
who coached from 1914-32, Chuck Klausing (77) who coached from
1976-85 and Dr. Edward Baker (65) who coached from 1940-42,
1949-59.
The 2011 season started with win number 496 over Grove City on September 3, 2011. The Tartans defeated the Wolverines 21-19 at home. Take a look back at the first 100 wins.
The Tartans won game 497 with a 35-14 victory at Kenyon College on Saturday, September 24. Take a look back at wins 101-200.
