Two Men’s Basketball Players Named Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Two Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball seniors, John Duhring (Round Hill, Va./St. Maria Goretti) and Joe Kromka (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway), have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District Team Thursday, February 2. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Duhring and Kromka will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America recognition.

Duhring, a civil & environmental engineering student, carries a 3.77 GPA.  Duhring leads the team in foul shooting, as he is converting 79.5% from the line. He currently ranks second in rebounding (4.8 rpg) and third in scoring (10.6 ppg).  Throughout his career, he has played in every game and currently ranks 12th on the school's all-time three-pointers made list with 94.  Earlier this season, Duhring grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds at Case Western Reserve and dished out a career-high six assists against Lebanon Valley.  

Off the court, Duhring is a member of the Student-Athletic Advisory Council and has been named an Andrew Carnegie Society Scholar as well being named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court Academic Award honoree.

Kromka has a 3.97 GPA and is a mechanical and biomedical engineering major.  He currently ranks first on the team and second in the University Athletic Association in blocked shots with 1.8 per contest.  Kromka also leads the team in rebounding as he is hauling down 5.7 a game and sits fourth on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg).   This season, Kromka has recorded career highs in points (19), rebounding (10), blocks (4) and steals (4).

Off the court, Kromka is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and Lambda Sigma Honor Society.  Like Duhring, he has also been named an Andrew Carnegie Society Scholar as well being named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court Academic Award honoree.
