Tartans Drop Sunday Contest with Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team met a tough opponent in Emory University on Sunday, January 20 in University Athletic Association action. The Eagles' (11-4, 3-2) strong start was too much for the Tartans (3-12, 0-4) to overcome in the 95-70 defeat in Skibo Gymnasium.

Emory jumped out to a 23-12 lead after hitting nine of their first 12 shots in the first seven minutes of play. Three of those shots were three-pointers, including two by McPherson Moore who finished the game with 19 points.

The Tartans pulled to within six on a couple occasions in the half with three-pointers by sophomore Jasen Blakney (Raleigh, N.C./Enloe) and senior Andre Moore (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) but the Eagles were able to answer each time and eventually pushed their advantage to 15 points to end the half ahead 52-37.

Carnegie Mellon scored the first six points of the second half to cut the deficit to single digits, 52-43, before the Eagles responded with five straight and kept a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Moore led the Tartans for the fourth straight game with 18 points, seven rebounds and a career-tying five assists. Junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NYC)) shot 50% from the field and finished with 16 points while junior Rashaun Riley (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) also recorded double-digit points with 10.

Jake Davis led the Eagles with 22 points with Alex Greven dropping in 19 points and hauling in eight rebounds.

The Tartans remain at home for their next contest when #13 Washington University (12-4, 2-3) visits Pittsburgh on Friday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m.
