Meghani Climbs All-Time School 3pt List in Loss at Chicago
(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team dropped a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest at the University of Chicago Sunday afternoon, 79-59. The loss puts the Tartans record at 4-16, 1-8 as the Maroons are now 9-10, 4-5.
The Tartans scored the game's first eight points and extended the lead to 12-2 four minutes in. The Maroons were fast to respond scoring eight unanswered to pull within two (12-10), junior Asad Meghani's (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) two three-pointers sandwiched with a pair of foul shots from junior Rashaun Riley (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) pushed the Tartans lead back to 10 points at 20-10 with 12:37 to play in the first half.
With Carnegie Mellon leading 22-12, the Tartans were held without a field goal over an eight minute span as Chicago used an 18-4 run over the Tartan drought to take its first lead of the contest. The Maroons continued to hold the lead and took a 35-28 lead into the break.
Chicago used an 18-0 run early in the second half to give the Maroons a 60-33 lead with 12:35 to play in the contest. The Maroons maintained control of the game winning 79-59.
The Tartans ended the game shooting 34% from the floor, as Chicago finished shooting 51%. Chicago held the edge on the glass hauling in 39 rebounds to the Tartans 33.
Meghani led the Tartans with 14 points as he moved into third-place on the school's all-time three-point made list after making four from long range. The junior now has 130 for his career. Junior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) had 11 points in the setback while leading the team with six rebounds.
Charlie Hughes led the Maroons with 17 points on 8-10 shooting and Wayne Simon ended the game with 15 points.
Carnegie Mellon will host Brandeis University on Friday, February 8 at Skibo Gymnasium with tip slated for 8:00 p.m.
