Five Tartans Score Double Figures in 85-72 Victory Over Pitt-Greensburg

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team had five players score in double figures in an 85-72 victory over Pitt-Greensburg on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium Saturday, November 23.  The win improves Carnegie Mellon's record to 2-0 while the Bobcats are 0-3.

Carnegie Mellon scored the first 11 points of the game before pushing its lead to 16-2 at the 15:32 mark when senior Rashaun Riley (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) drained a three-point bucket. The Tartans maintained the double digit lead over the next seven minutes before the Bobcats scored seven straight to cut the lead to 24-16.

The Tartans lead never dropped below eight points while they closed the half converting five foul shots over a two minute span and took a 38-26 advantage into the locker room.

A little over four minutes into the second half, Carnegie Mellon started a 12-2 run which ended on a long ball from senior Christian Manoli (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda) at the 12:42 mark.  Manoli's trey gave the Tartans their largest lead of the contest at 56-35. Carnegie Mellon held the double digit lead the remainder of the game and went on for the 85-72 victory.  

For the second straight game, Carnegie Mellon capitalized on it opponents mistakes.  The Tartans scored 23 of their points off turnovers while the Bobcats managed just 13 points off the Tartans mishaps.

Manoli led the Tartans with 18 points while dishing out a game-high seven assists. Senior Asad Meghani (Dallas, Texas/The Greenhill School) made it 33 straight games he has made a three-pointer as he converted 5-of-10 from long range and ended with 15 points. Senior Rob Mohen (Stamford, Conn./Regis (NY)) cashed in with 13 points while Riley and junior Seth Cordts (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) each totaled 12 points.  For Cordts, it marked a career-high.

Meghani, senior Sean Brophy (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) and junior Kevin Stursberg (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Jacksonville Episcopal) each recorded three steals while it tied a career-high for Meghani and set a new career-best for Stursberg.  

Carnegie Mellon will be back in action on Tuesday, November 26 when the host the Gators of Allegheny College at 8:00 p.m.
