Men’s Basketball Earns Spot in ECAC Tournament

(DANBURY, Conn) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team with a record of 14-11 has been selected as the fourth-seed in the field of the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Basketball Championship presented by Visit Myrtle Beach. This marks the Tartans first postseason appearance since playing in the NCAA Tournament in 2009. The weekend finals, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will be hosted by Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pennsylvania.    

This year's men's tournament features a field of 12 teams with the top four seeds receiving byes in the first round of play. The top four seeds for the tournament will be: No. 1 Moravian College (19-8), No. 2 DeSales University (18-9), No. 3 Penn State Behrend (19-7), No. 4 Carnegie Mellon (14-11).

Carnegie Mellon will play the winner of Stockton University (14-11) and Baruch College (18-9) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3 in the quarterfinals. Stockton is part of the New Jersey Athletic Conference while Baruch is a member of the City University of New York Athletic Conference.

The semifinals are set to be played Saturday, March 4 with the Tartans playing at 3:00 p.m. should they advance. The championship contest is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5.
