(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's basketball team started its weekend University Athletic Association road trip with a 79-55 loss at New York University on Friday night.

How it Happened

  • Carnegie Mellon opened the game converting three of its first four shots and led 6-0 before NYU used an 11-2 run over and eight-minute stretch and took an 11-8 lead with 12:16 remaining in the first half.
  • Three minutes later, the Violets led 19-15 and then closed the half on a 17-4 run and led 36-19 at the break.
  • The start of the second half saw the home team go on an 11-4 run to take a 47-23 advantage.
  • A pair of free throws made by NYU's Nikola Lipovic with 9:18 to play in the contest gave the Violets their largest lead of the contest at 69-33.
  • Carnegie Mellon's junior Jack Stone and sophomore Aidan Murphy then combined for 11 of the next 14 points to make the score 72-44 before NYU went on for the 79-55 victory.

Tartans Stats

  • Freshman Buckley DeJardin led the Tartans with a season-best 10 points. DeJardin connected on 8-of-8 from the foul line.
  • Junior Jack Stone scored nine points.
  • Senior Nick Nakasian led the Cardinal and Gray with six rebounds.

Violets Stats

  • Spencer Freedman led NYU with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor.
  • Michael Savarino along with Nikola Lipovic each scored 13 points with Cinque Stephens finishing with 10 points.

Game Notes

  • The loss snaps the Tartans three-game winning streak in New York.
